GameSpy: The Conduit Preview

Files under GamePosts | Leave a Comment

Although first-person shooters seemed a perfect fit for the Wii’s unique point-and-fire input, the majority of FPS titles on the system have been disappointing. Ubisoft’s Red Steel was one of the most-anticipated launch titles, and while it sold well, it was savaged by critics. Things have been getting better, however, as Call of Duty 3 received higher scores and Metroid Prime: Corruption was considered by many to be one of 2007’s best Wii games. This holiday, gamers might be seeing the FPS genre hitting its stride with the release of the new, more precise Wiimote technology and The Conduit, the latest title from developer High Voltage.

Spiffy:

Impressive visuals; responsive controls; wide range of weapons; intriguing storyline.

Iffy:

Controls still need to be fine-tuned a bit; how will the online multiplayer work?

Immersion Paying Microsoft $21 Million

1up.com writes "My how the tables have turned. Instead of receiving money from a lawsuit, Immersion now has to pay some out. Ars Technica reports the company has agreed to pay Microsoft a cool $21 million as part of the settlement the parties reached over Immersion’s original force feedback suit.

Back in 2002 Immersion sued both Sony and Microsoft for infringing upon US patents 6,424,333 and 6,275,213. Microsoft agreed to settle out of court with one of the stipulations being they would receive a payment should Immersion prevail in its suit against Sony. Immersion, of course, finally won the suit in March 2007, which supposedly lost Sony $90 million…and as a result triggered a $15 million payment to Microsoft.

Unfortunately for Immersion, Microsoft felt that amount wasn’t adequate and sued Immersion for breach of contract shortly thereafter. Regarding the suit, Microsoft associate general counsel Steve Aeschbacher said "We entered into a binding licensing agreement with Immersion and are asking to have that agreement honored."

In an IGN interview with Cliff Bleszinski, it was revealed by Cliff that Gears of War 2 would not be coming to the PC. The point of interest came up in a question about Gears 2’s "Linked Achievements" and the Achievement portability with an account from Games for Windows Live.

When prompted about a PC version of Gears 2, Cliff spilled the beans: "Gears of War is a great franchise first and foremost for Xbox 360, and therefore we’re focusing on that platform for Gears of War 2. We’ve decided we’re not going to do a PC version this time around."

CSM: N+ PSP Review

Files under GamePosts | Leave a Comment

CSM Writes:

"The title uses a great deal of real world physics which come into play as your character is jumping over bombs and turrets. This adds a sense of realism to a title which otherwise is pretty far removed from reality. For example, long falls will end your attempt on a particular level. Also, attempting to make very long jumps which defy the laws of gravity is impossible, so using momentum and learning proper control is of utmost importance. Thankfully, the game controls are wonderful."
