Windows 7, the successor to Microsoft’s PC operating system Windows Vista, is to feature touch-screen technology, a Microsoft team member has stated.
Previously codenamed Blackcomb and Vienna, Windows 7 will also, according to Bill Gates, include “a pervasive typing line that will recognise the sentence that [the user is] typing in”.
Given the success of the Nintendo DS and the way its touch-screen has allowed new possibilities for gameplay, this promised feature could open the doors for a whole new way of gaming on the PC.
Hilton Locke, who worked on the Tablet PC team at Microsoft, said: “I will say that if you are impressed by the “touch features” in the iPhone, you’ll be blown away by what’s coming in Windows 7. Now if only we could convince more OEMs that Windows Touch Technology is going to drive their sales.”
Windows 7 is expected to be launched during the second half of 2009.

Nvidia’s top selling 8800 GT card is by far the best value-for-money graphics card in years, and ever since its release back in November, it has been in shortages all over the world. That hasn’t stopped several manufacturers from creating high-end versions with 1 GB of memory. Palit is one of them, and at CES they announced a 1 GB 8800 GT which will be available next month, at only $20-$30 more than the 512 MB version.
In December, Asus announced a 1 GB version, as did Sparkle and Club 3D. However, very few, in some cases none, have been spotted in retail stores.
