Nintendo Shoots For Wii Pay & Play

“Nintendo’s Takashi Aoyama announced a new Pay to Play program. This will be a new version of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (NWFC). Aoyama explained that NWFC will remain a free service, but forthcoming experiences will require users to pay a fee to enjoy. These services will fall under the new NWFC: Pay to Play program. Games that utilize the new service will feature a logo similar to the one used for NWFC but is orange and reads Pay to Play at the bottom.

He did say Nintendo is taking steps to ensure consumers don’t mistakenly buy a Pay to Play game with the expectation that they will be able to access the entire game for no extra charge.”

Recently Nintendo’s Takashi Aoyama announced a new Wii Pay & Pay program.  No additional information are presented on what the Wii gamers will be paying for, but we hope that it contributes the users additional online abilities, downloadable contents, voice chat, and etc.  Although Nintendo could undergo a heavy hit, since PS3 will be the only system that would be giving away free online service.

Wii dominated sales in 2007 for Japan

Files under Nintendo Gaming | 1 Comment

Recently announced by Enterbrain, Nintendo dominated the competition in sales figures for 2007. They were able to gain tremendous amounts from not only their hardware, but software as well.

They sold 7.1 million Nintendo DS units and 3.6 million Wii sales. The PSP came in third selling 3 million and the PS3 in forth with 1.2 million. Staggering along behind them all was the Xbox 360 with 258,000.

Wii Sports conquered the software category with 1.9 million units sold. Next up was Monster Hunter Portable 2 with 1.489 million. Wii Play came in third place in the category with 1.487 million. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon was next in line with 1.25 million and Mario Party DS came close with 1.23 million.

The hardware sales reached 327.41 billion (US 2.9 B) and the software sales reached 360.25 billion (US 3.3 B), totaling to a massive amount of 687.66 billion (US 6.2 B) in Japan.

Having said this, it looks like we Playstation fans need to kick it up a notch for good ol’ Sony and start buying PS3’s and games for our friends and family (if you have some serious extra cash laying around!)
