TalkingAboutGames Review: Ninja Gaiden II (5/10)

TalkingAboutGames writes: "“REALLY?!”

Then, following a short pause;

“Do I really have to keep playing this f*****g game?! For the love of god I would rather s*** razorblades!”

Bellows of equal or more animosity tore through the walls of my apartment as my controller said its prayers and my blood pressure went over a healthy limit. At times I considered pressing pause - not for a bathroom break, but to allow myself to calm down to a level where I did not fear for the explosion of my jaded little gamer heart.

Somewhere along the way I remembered, “Oh yeah. It’s just Ninja Gaiden.” Team Ninja’s Ninja Gaiden II finally arrived this month after a four-year wait. Tomonobu Itagaki’s last Gaiden creation follows two Ninja Gaiden remake (Black, Sigma) and a vanilla DS offering called Dragon Sword since its original predecessor, Ninja Gaiden. With his creator, Ryu Hayabusa takes one last bow on the big stage. Unfortunately, it is clear that the effects of Itagaki’s recent, abrupt departure were most devastating to his beloved creation.

As a Ninja Gaiden fan, I am disappointed alongside my fellow fans – even as a member of the Ninja Gaiden Legion of Suck, I could still enjoy the original without a problem. Unfortunately, that is just not the case anymore. Today, I will make an example of Ninja Gaiden II.

See how this ninja fell from grace. "
