The Japan Preview: 3/30 Edition (850k for MHP2G, DS to pass PS2 next week)

VGChartz writes: "Monster Hunter Portable 2 G launched this week in Japan. The game is a follow up to perhaps the defining PSP games in Japan – Monster Hunter Portable and Monster Hunter Portable 2. Like Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII before it, the game was bundled with some PSPs in Japan for its launch. As a result, both PSP hardware and software sales are up this week, with the rest of the market down from last week. Moving forward, the next major release will likely be the new Mario Kart game for Wii."

Key Points:

-After a close call last week on whether DS outsold PSP there should be no doubt that PSP outsold DS this week.

- Monster Hunter Portable 2 G does not look like it significantly boosted other PSP software in the preliminary data despite its strong debut.

Hardware Predicted Totals:

PSP: 70,000 to 100,000 units

DSL: 50,000 to 60,000 units

Wii: 48,000 to 58,000 units

PS3: 11,000 to 19,000 units

PS2: 8,000 to 12,000 units

360: 1,500 to 3,500 range
