Week recap: PS3 beat by Xbox 360; Wii No. 2

The PS3 80GB SKU this week held in the top five sales at Amazon.com following a price cut for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360. The product sells for $399.99.

The Xbox 360 beat the PS3 in Aug. U.S. sales in the latest data from NPD Group Inc. The 360 ranked No. 4 in overall sales.

Microsoft this week said that Xbox 360 sales doubled in the weekend following a hardware price cut. The cheapest product in the lineup sells for $199.

The Nintendo DS and Wii topped U.S. Aug. sales in the latest NPD Group Inc. data. The products ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in overall sales.

Nintendo this week released a new wave of WiiWare and Virtual Console titles to Wii. New products include Groovin’ Blocks, Final Soldier, and Cho Aniki.
